Does replacing diveted original felt help, hurt or not affect a typical phono's worth?

I believe this correct in a lot of cases, but if the felt is in really ratty condition I think it hurts the value negatively because even though a lot of history collectors love original, we still suffer from the "curb appeal" effect to some extent.

Perhaps, if "value" is solely determined by limiting oneself to selling only to serious collectors. There's a whole bigger world out there, with many folks who only want one or two machines, and current decorative appearance means more to them than 100+ years of wear and tear.

The dark green replacement looks synthetic to me, it has lines in it made by the machine that makes it, there is also colour differentiation with in the lines.

I had to special order on line to get a nice pressed wool felt, I bought the synthetic stuff at first, but it just didn't look right to me.
None of my local fabric shops didn't have the real thing.

I used to be of the mindset that if it wasn't perfect, I'd replace it. That was because more often than not it spoilt the rest of the machine in terms of appearance.

Nowadays, I leave everything alone and prefer original every time unless it is so moth eaten that there is more missing than existing! As has already been said, it is only original once.
