Okay for those of you who watched the original Vampire television series "Dark Shadows" in the 1960s and early 1970s like I did may remember "Quentin's Theme." I found this arrangement through Bing that includes a video presentation of phonographs along with Quentins Theme from Dark Shadows.

Re: Phonographs, Dark Shadows and Quentin's Theme
This brings back memories. My Mom liked to watch Dark Shadows and it came on just after I got home from school. I was 10 years old and it was 1970. My grandmother had passed away and I was with my Mom who was helping my elderly grandfather sell the family home on the east coast and move into a nursing home. Their house was a three story Victorian dating back to the 1800's. On a Saturday afternoon, I watched an episode of either Twilight Zone or Outer Limits that was about a man who found an old radio in his basement and a neighbor kid helped him set up. When he turned on the radio, all it received was old broadcasts. I don't remember what exactly happened but I remember that I was kind of freaked out as I was into short wave radio and had an old radio back at home. That night, I was in my grandfathers basement (dark, damp, dank, low ceiling, and full of junk that had been piling up since the 1920's). On a junk covered table I noticed an old tombstone table top radio. I asked my grandfather if it worked and he said he probably hadn't listened to it for over 20 years, but is should work. So I went back down and plugged it in. I turned it on and the dial light glowed dimly while the tubes were warming up. As it warmed up, the radio was tuned to a station and Quentin's theme was playing. It scared the you what out of me and I ran screaming out of the basement. I still think about how scared I was. The power of imagination.

Re: Phonographs, Dark Shadows and Quentin's Theme
Wow,do I remember that soap opera! I was living in VT in 1966 when that first debuted, and it was still in black & white when many shows had gone to color by then. I think it was in 1968 when Quentin's character was introduced as a ghost that would summon the two small children that were living at Collinwood via the Edison Home phonograph that was in the room he was walled up alive in 1897 by his own family as he had become a werewolf. When I first saw the machine, I was hooked! What was this and when was this used? I had never seen anything like this prior and already had an affinity to antiques. Because of this show, I started my long love affair with Edison and other contemporary phonographs.
Several years ago, I gave Shawn Borri a CD that had 'Shadows of the Night (Quentin's Theme) and he made me a very nice copy on one of his white wax cylinders.
I hope to get it posted soon on Youtube with a machine close to what was used and will post it here as well.

The phonograph on Dark Shadows is the very reason I am on this forum and enjoying antique phonographs!

It's curious:
i remember "Dark Shadows" way back when (although I only remember watching it at my aunt's - my cousins were into it), yet I do not recall the phonograph…

Bill,
I watched it almost from the beginning, until they ran out of ideas (it was not very good, towards the end).
It appears that you are a Firesign Theatre person, based on your location, sir.

Wow Dark Shadows Quentin's theme Firesign theatre all in one post.
I watched dark Shadows from almost day one back in the days of Balck and white it was live not taped all sorts of little mistakes I remember Quentin's first appearance being summoned by the 2 children the music I can't recall how it was played I thought it was a music box and of "Waiting for the electrician or somebody like him" We are going to learn of first 3 words in Turkish.
but sadly none of the links are working in the post. How about the evil Reverend Trask?
But the Tim Burton version of DS is great keeping with campy 70's feel plus the music
good post memories ahh my girlfriend called me her Quentin as she was a huge Fan at the time of the original series I am 58 now He got me la.d
