My favorite "Holy Grail"phonograph is this Victor III. I grew up reading Phonophan (Tim Fabrizio) and Paul Edie on the library computer and being impressed by the Victor disc phonographs. Thought I would not be able to afford one, so I didn't bother trying to get one. I collected first a Victrola XIV which I still have, then a Standard banner case, and portables. Eventually I got very fortunate and bought the Victor III from Shop Goodwill still in the original carry case (probably my favorite phonograph finding experience).
Of course I never really had a good place to display it. But it now lives on a modest lower-end Herzog record cabinet now in matching oak.
Looks cool, plays records, sounds great, and lasts a long time just like every Victor or Victrola ever.
What is your ”Holy Grail” machine? Have you found it?
