Late front mount Victor R (1903-4) with a smooth-sided spindle. Wayne delivery only. No shipping. Pretty nice machine, as you can see in the pics. There's no crank or reproducer, but vendors at the Wayne show should have something there that you can use. Runs reasonably well, though the mech. would clearly benefit from cleaning and lubrication. Price is $495. If you're under the age of 25 (and have an ID that can prove it), the price is $350. Paypal payment please. If you're relatively new to antique phonograph collecting, this would be an exellent machine around which to start building a collection of early front mount phonographs. By the way, there's a great overview of the R by George Paul in the September issue of the Antique Phonograph, the journal of the Antique Phonograph Society; you might want to take a look if you haven't already seen it.

That's what I'm hoping, Ben. My first front mount disc phonograph was a Victor R. Maybe it will be someone else's first front mount too.

My first front-mount machine was also a Victor Royal (I still have it!), and I paid $75 for it in September 1973. It was missing the crank, support arm, the traveling arm, the sound box, elbow, and horn. Basically I bought the cabinet, motor and turntable. Considering the passage of 50 years, your Royal is a much better deal!

Good on you, Grant, for making this so affordable. I hope a beginning collector can acquire it.
