New Toy in the House

Post by drh »

Thanks to forum member daverob, I've now achieved a long-held wish to own a Victor VI. Definitely a step up from the less-than-pristine Victor V that it replaces. Not only does the VI look better, it *sounds* better. A few photos are below. Yeah, it deserves a better stand; that rather drab little cabinet was just the most convenient place to put it when unpacking.

As an aside, I'll go on record (sorry!) that my experience with him was first-rate in every way, and he definitely knows how to pack a machine for safe transit.

That's beautiful David--- The VI's are such a beautiful machine-- My early Vic 6 (serial# 1212) now resides in a collection in TN-- sold about 3 years ago. Wish I had known you were looking- It would have been an easy pick-up :)

Thanks! You're right, it would have been easy, but back then I wasn't looking. In fact, I wasn't really looking now, either, and certainly hadn't planned on this--but when I saw the Yankee Trader ad, I inquired on the spur of the moment, realizing that now that my kid's in college, I'm not single-handedly supporting half the figure skating coaches in the area (among lots of other folks) and am no longer pouring $$$ into her college fund but rather starting to draw them back out. So when the answer "yes" came back, I figured I actually could splurge on it for myself, as long as I make myself a promise that I won't do any other "major" discretionary purchases for a while. And that's what I did. I'm guessing mine may be relatively late; it's no. 5642, and the data plate shows an Arabic "6" rather than a Roman "VI" for the model number. No matter to me--it's a real thing of beauty, and I'm just very happy to have it! I've sent its predecessor, a somewhat downtrodden Victor V in the plain-Jane later style case, off to auction next month; I know prices are 'way down, but I'm hoping I'll recover at least some of what I put into this much nicer machine.

How we change our views over time. I remember being really excited about the V, too, back when I got it...

216 S. Washington, Lansing, MI as it is today. Most likely, the very same building...
