Edison 2/4 minute question

Post by jboger »

I've attached a picture of my Edison 2/4-minute attachment. I have only two cylinders, they're not in good shape, and I don't know if either is a 2-minute or a 4-minute cylinder. Could one of the wisemen, after looking at the picture, tell me what position I have the attachment set for? I can then take it from there.

Thank you,

John

One way to distinguish between two-minute and four-minute cylinders is to compare the pitch of the recorded groove with that of the feed-screw. If they look the same, the cylinder is a two-minute. The four-minute type has a groove which will be instantly recognisable as being much finer. The combination-attachment deals with this difference by halving the rotational speed of the feed-screw.

BIG TIP: The Majority of 4 Minute cylinders are marked "4M" on the Rim meaning for 4-Minute cylinder. The only exception are Edison Blue Amberols or Royal Purple cylinders which are denoted 4-Minute by their distinctive colors, Blue, and then Purple.
