Why can't it be both? That's how my wife thinks of me, I'm sure.

Worst case the brake is worth the asking price. It probably has an early motor and turntable along with a nice female crank. If it was closer I would jump on it.

To answer the question, I think that it is ugly and kind of cool too. It’s a perfect parts machine because the original machine is already gone and then parts can be used to finish some original machines. The old Mahogany cabinet could be useful as well.

If this didn't start life as a European machine.... it almost looks like one of those very early upright Grafonolas.... I will glance at the book later to see if I can spot the cabinet. Either way, I agree with the others - the price isn't that bad for what you're getting. At least, your buddy won't have the same machine in his collection... LOL

Those of you with a copy of "His Master's Gramophone" can view a similar HMV cabinet on Page 103, Fig 4.15.
It did not appear in British catalogues, but here is it's British cousin the HMV Junior Grand.

Very cool I think.

Is it made from Mahogany ? Well worth one hundred dollars - to me any-way.

A veritable Brad Pitt of gramophones !

(I wouldn't mind owning the house it is photographed in as well !).

The interior is nice, but deceiving... the exterior is another story... :?

As Chevy Chase once said, "Oh, it's not so bad. A little spackle, a little paint, a little napalm..."
