The inside looks Mahogany, but the outside looks something different

Doors look exactly like Macassar Ebony. I think they have been re- veneered. Maybe I am not the first person to make cream out of sheet and save a gramophone AND a tree by using leftover veneer from redoing a Mercedes dash... here's Macassar Ebony:

All mahogany. The outside is either poorly stained or sun bleached. Or, both...

I third on the bad mahogany. Either sun bleached or a bad refinish. Looks like whoever worked on it used a modern polyurethane finish.

The color on the inside of the lid looks like mahogany, but the grain on the front of the doors looks too coarse and unevenly spaced for mahogany, badly refinished or not... Just my opinion... I could be wrong.

Mahogany is known for its straight, fine grain and durability, making it a popular choice for fine furniture, boat construction, and musical instruments.

My 2 cents...
Any mahogany can be cut into what is produced to what is seen in the first photo _ ribbon grain.
It's ¼ sawn like like Oak to achieve the ribbon pattern.

The grain pattern on the first post catches the light differently in the flash and what you see appears, and if the photo was taken from the left or right, the pattern would change.

This is exaggerated from the strip job creating the light parts of the pattern as well as the dark parts, and this always changed as the camera is moved from left to right and from right to left.

It's just the way the ribbon pattern shows up under the flash as well as in real life _ I will say it's mahogany.
