*SOLVED* Technics SL-D3 Issue, can anyone help?

Post by Oceanvalley »

*SOLVED*

Hey guys!

Im just new to this forum but I came across a issue with my Technics Sl-D3 player today and was looking for help on the internet.
I made a video of what happens when I try to play a record to show what I mean:

--

As you can see the needle "skates" across the Vinyl.
I've tried to change the pressure and the other knobs but can't figure out what the exact problem is.
Is it the needle perhaps?
Could anyone help me out?

Thanks in advance!

Is your turntable exactly levelled? Use a bubble level.

Have you checked to make sure that the stylus actually has a point on the end and that it hasn't been knocked or chipped off. It just seems to skate accross the disk without any resistance at all.

I think you may be right "Swing Band Heaven"!
I think the needle has lost its sharp point needle part, so I guess i'll have to buy a new one.
Thanks for helping out ;)

I'd think the stylus tip was sheared off too. Though it should still sound, but I'm assuming you had the volume on the amplifier turned down.

Your tracking pressure may be too light (check the cartridge manufacturer's recommendation with a balance scale of known accuracy), and/or the anti-skate device on the tone arm may need adjustment (check the turntable instructions for the procedure).
