Found Three Phonographs

Post by mrbechet »

I am now kicking myself for not taking more pictures (what is below is just so I didn’t forget the model names), but visiting my mom in central New York for the holiday led me to Finders Keepers, an antique shop on Main Street in Richfield Springs which has a Kimberley A, a Culptone, and a Silvertone. The first two have reproducers; none have cranks. None appeared to be in great exterior shape and I didn’t play any, but I wanted to alert you all to their existence should they be interesting for any reason.

I’d never heard of the first two, so any background or info is appreciated.

Is that some sort of autobrake I see on the Culptone and the Kimberly?

I noticed them too and thought it interesting that they seem to be the same model auto-brake.

Probably an after market accessory.

interesting how the Kimberly has a Victor tapered tonearm. I assume there was originally a pot metal one that went bad and they repaired it with a Victor arm, or is this one of those rare occurrences when an Off-brand machine has a tapered arm?
