SOLD: Cylinder Machine Crane Base - SCARCE Gizmo

Post by Phonomark »

Fellow Forum Members-

For your consideration, here's a very unusual and scarce horn crane base made by the Standard Metal Manufacturing Company. This one is designed to fit on an Edison Home cylinder phonograph. They also made one for the Standard. These crane bases must be pretty scarce. This is the only one I've ever seen in person. It is illustrated in the "Antique Phonograph Accessories & Contraptions" book by Fabrizio and Paul on Page 23.

The crane base and components are in good condition and finished in black paint with gold tufts and pinstriping. There's some paint loss commensurate with it's age on both the base and the two end brackets. Could be left as is or easily restored with new paint and graphics. A partial restoration of the paint would go a long ways in it's presentation, especially on the end brackets and the right side of the main bracket. All of the components such as the adjustable thumb screws and rods are original to the base. See photos for condition detail.

This sale is for the crane base. I have shown the crane base mounted on an Edison Home Phonograph for illustration purposes only. One photo also shows it with a nickel plated crane in place within the base. Both the Phonograph and the nickel plated horn crane are NOT included in the sale.

A hard and rare phonograph gizmo to find loose.

Asking price is SOLD plus shipping within the 48 States. No International Shipping! Payment by Paypal F&F or by personal check only. Reasonable offers considered.

Please send PM with interest or inquiry. First to tell me it's sold gets it. No holds or reservations.

Thanks
Mark

Out of curiosity, does this attachment reach all the way around the front of an Edison Triumph, or can it only fit Homes and Standards?

I just checked, and this example will work on any factory-cased Triumph. The arms are threaded for adjustability.
