HMV 102 Governor Bearings

Post by An Balores »

Can anyone confirm that the HMV 102 governor bearings are eccentric? I'm getting a little noise which corresponds with the rotation of the turntable drive shaft and thinking a little tweak of one of the governor bearings may help improve the engagement of the worm with the drive gear (I did this successfully on a Columbia motor once).

I don't remember, but I'll bid that none of the hmv motors has eccentric governor bearings adjustable by rotation. I've seen that in Thorens motors, though.

I can confirm that HMV motors do not have eccentric governor bearings.

Thank you Barry. I'll leave it alone then - unless anyone has any other suggestions......

Just a thought... if someone in the past has been messing about with the governors, it's possible that the bearings have been installed incorrectly. The bearing that is nearest the governor worm gear has a groove cut into it's circumference. The securing screw for the bearing has a point, which must be located in that groove when tightened. Thus the governor position is correct and locked in place. If the locating screw has been tightened anywhere else on the bearing, it will alter the horizontal position of the governors and cause them to be slightly out of mesh. Worth checking?

Thank you once again, Barry. That is useful information. I will take a look some time - I'm not in any real hurry, just something I noticed recently. Its not an awful noise.
