New here, help identify my Silvertone

Post by DLS1DLS1 »

I came across this old Silvertone and I am trying to identify model. I was able to find traces of Silvertone label on inside of lid. Despite her looks, she does still play (looking for brake as it's missing). Any thoughts on a model would be appreciated.

That tonearm has been repaired and not in its original form, where it had a special elbow that allowed turning 90 degrees to play vertical records. Anyway, it is not rare, and looking in eBay or the usual dealers you can find an easy replacement.

Being new (here at least), you may not be aware of the major parts suppliers for our hobby. There are a number of them, and some of them specialize in certain things.

For original old parts (such as the tone arm on your Silvertone), I'd recommend:

George Vollema: http://www.victroladoctor.com/

For new reproduction parts, I recommend:

Brian Parlier
The Phonograph Shop

There are sources for other parts, but these two fellows should be able to help you now.

I couldn't find your Silvertone in Sears' 1918 catalog, but it's certainly of that general period (1918-1923).

Since Sears didn't use any model identification tags, you can only tell them apart by the cabinet design, which can be a little tricky without the grill.

I'm pretty sure it's a 1923 model "Regent" but I'm not 100% positive.
