Victrola XVII record cabinet locked shut

Post by Ampico66 »

I locked my Victrola XVII and can't get it open. I tested the lock several times before finally closing the doors and locking it and it all worked fine. However, after several days of sitting locked the lock had frozen. I tried squirting penetrating solution in there, then WD-40 and this thing won't budge.

Anybody have any ideas?

My cat was getting into all my Victrolas from the XVII, 330, 230, even the Credenza. She likes to open doors on cabinets. She was eating 100-year-old Victor record jackets.

I had something like that happen to me years ago with a storage cabinet--not a Victrola.

Try pressing on one or both doors, firmly but gently while turning the key and see if it moves.

If that doesn't work, pull upwards gently on one or both knobs, while turning the key. (You may need help with that.)

If that doesn't work, grab a crowbar......

Before you start pulling,pushing,etc...... If you have another "V" key, you may want to try that first. It happened to me and worked. Sometimes it is just wear.

Take the pins out of the hinges.
