He did loads and loads of vinyl pressings on his purpose built press both for the big companies like Sony and BMG and smaller specialised ones. After transfer onto digital tape lots of these records found their way into the hands of collectors.
And how about this one? Another "vinyl test pressing from the 1930's". It has a Columbia label, but also a stamp in red ink that says 1998. The handwriting looks similar to jholmesesq's record.

I'm not sure what book that was, but the one where Gary trashes Bing, "Going My Own Way," came out in 1983 -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Crosby_%28actor%29 -- some six years after Bing died.

As you noted, regardless of the rebuttals, as that sort of thing "sticks around for a long time." (well said.)

Oooh, very interesting to know where this one came from.

Bart1927 - I bid on the Edgewater Orch side but lost out at the very end! I did however win a Gene Krupa unissued vinyl test from that same seller so all is not lost ;)

Yup, I was the high bidder on that one. I'm a notorious sniper ;) But if you're interested in more of those, I just saw that Mark Stephens listed a whole bunch of vinyl test pressings, this time apparently made by another sound engineer, the world famous late John R.T. Davies. These are a little too hot for my taste (I prefer the more "standard" dance band stuff), but they might be right up your alley.

Regards,

Bart

I have a YT account, and I've put a few video's up. However, since I don't have a real camera, I used my Sony Cybershot. And the built-in microphone doesn't do my gramophones any justice.

I also posted a few of my transfers on box.net. If you check my other posts in the music section, you'll find them all.

Anyways, my YT account is: http://www.youtube.com/user/heerbommel

I had never seen this posed portrait of BING CROSBY before, and neither had Phil Pospychala, Hans Eckoff, Steve Zalusky, and many others at the LES PAUL exhibit at Discovery Museum while on the TRIBUTE TO BIX IN RACINE bus tour stop in Milwaukee. Does anyone have any information regarding this picture?

Bart,

Both were pressed by Harry too. He has a very characteristic handwriting. Sorry for not replying earlier, but my pc broke down and I had to do a complete re-install that I only finished yesterday.
