oak Herzog cabinet inside

Post by wrestler! »

hello, I was directed to your site and told be many generous collectors ready to help. I on a few phonographs and recently bought a Herzog cabinet. I have been restoring it and am now ready to put in the shelves I purchased as a kit that fit perfect I might add. MY QUESTION: My cabinet has a small hole about 6 inches up from each groove in the door, is this for a chain to attach? metal bracket?? this cabinet is not the one with the wooden side support for shelves. PLUS where can I purchase some stencils for numbering pegs. any help will be greatly appreciated. thank you Rick in Pa.

Rick,

Yes, the small holes in the door are for wire supports - - they should have come with your shelf kit. If not, you can easily make them.

As for numbers for the pegs, I'd recommend a set of rubber stamps from a craft store. Use a purple ink pad if you can get it.

There are some pictures from my Herzog restoral where you can see the shelf brackets: http://forum.talkingmachine.info/viewto ... zog#p16166 I made my brackets and they work great.

The rubber stamping of the peg numbers was a bigger chore than one would think it would be. You have about 325 individual stamps to perform. I could not find the rubber stamps in my local craft stores, but there were a lot of online "rubber stamp" web sites that carry them. The challenge was finding the correct font in the correct height. (It's been a while so I don't recall the font or where I found them). I stamped the numbers after the caps were glued in and dry.

Since there are so many stamp operations to perform, be sure and glue the rubber stamp to a handle that is comfortable. I made mine from some simple small wood blocks and the sharp edges really bothered me half way into the effort.
Why do we need signatures when we are on a first avatar basis?
