FOR SALE: KALAMAZOO DUPLEX PHONOGRAPH PARTS

Post by erunltd »

This is a Kalamazoo Duplex restoration project which I don’t have time to complete. As you know, these machines in any reasonable condition are VERY hard to come by. This one would give some collector a good start and a fun and worthwhile project to add to a collection.

The case is very nice but just needed a bottom. I used a lid from another Duplex. You be the judge how it looks. I can include an oak bottom which just needs an ogee router edge. See photo. The case also has the speed control and knurled adjustment screw. There is no crank but it is a commonly available Columbia female end type.

The motor is a Columbia 2-spring motor that has almost the same configuration as the Duplex motor. The mounting holes are slightly different as indicated in the template I am including. Drilling the modified holes in the Columbia motor frame as shown in the drawing will avoid altering the original case mounting holes. This motor is in good shape but needs minor governor-to-drive-gear adjustment to run smoothly. All gears are sharp and the motor has been cleaned and springs lubricated.

The horn support arm and harp are good solid reproductions cast in bronze. They need nickel plating if you so choose. The support arm hole will need to be widened for the horn support harp. The turntable is the one that goes with the Columbia 2-spring motor and has new felt.

The reproducer is a quality reproduction made years ago I believe by Paul Baker and works great. Also a tough find.

I also have two 42" long Hawthorne and Sheble horns in nice shape that are cylinder machine horns but can easily be modified to be used with the Duplex. The horns are almost impossible to find these days. The horns are NOT part of this listing.

Price: $750 First posted SOLD Shipping is extra via UPS (Pirate) which has best (Lowest) rates.
