Thank you SO much! The articles are so informational and interesting. I am excited for this new journey!!phonogfp wrote: Tue Feb 20, 2024 8:26 pm Your machine (that is, your husband's machine) is an Edison Standard Model B. According to original sales documents, #378335 left the factory in November 1906. Your example is in its original 2-minute configuration, meaning it will play 2-minute records only. When looking for 2-minute records, don't judge them by the boxes in which they're found. These get switched all the time. Look at the records themselves - which is a good idea anyway because moldy records are worthless.
Here are a couple of free articles on the Antique Phonograph Society's website which will help you identify different types of cylinder records and the various models of the Edison Standard.

There are several other free articles on the APS site which you may find informative and useful.
Have fun with it!

Re: Edison Phonograph
Good morning!! So this weekend I was FINALLY able to give my husband his gift for his 40th birthday
. He loves it and is excited for this new hobby!
He’s noticed that the reproducer is labeled as Model C, and we are wondering if this is a replacement part or if they originally were built this way. Pic included in this post.
Also, I didn’t purchase the missing gear cover when I was first told about it because I thought it would be fun for him, but now the part is I available and we’re not sure what model to search for (B or C?)
Thank you all so much for your help!!

Re: Edison Phonograph
The reproducer is 100% correct for this phonograph. Model C refers only to the model of reproducer, and not the model of the phonograph itself. In other words, your Model B Standard uses a Model C reproducer.jgood wrote: Mon Jun 03, 2024 10:26 am Good morning!! Re: Edison Phonograph
Husband here. My wife gave me her account to talk to you good folks.
First off thanks so much for helping her out with this amazing gift. We spotted this gem in an antique shop and I had to walk away from it being 375 was a bit pricy to spend on an antique. (Not at all in my opinion. Seems like a pretty good price for a piece of history) Little did I know she went back the next day to buy it secretly for my birthday. Anyway I just wanted to let you know I have the gear cover on the way and I'm watching eBay for a recording stylus and maybe some blank cylinders for some recording of our own.
Once again thanks a lot and I'm sure I'll be back with more questions.

Pretty soon you’ll have 12 Edison cylinder machines, 3 Columbia cylinder machines, 2 Edison diamond disc players, 9 Victrolas, 2 outside horn disc machines, and a portable Brunswick panatrope, and a Pathéphone for those discs…Oh wait…That’s me!
