June 5, 1907: John Herzog filed for a U.S. Design Patent (eventually granted as No.38,669) for “Phonograph Cabinet.” This would be marketed as the Columbia “Symphony Grand,” the company’s first internal-horn talking machine.

On this day ... on a completely different topic: On June 5, 1887, William Kennedy Laurie Dickson commenced with magnetic ore separator experiments. If only he had never done it - Edison would have been spared a lot of grief.
