Good morning everyone!
i may be in the wrong place for this, but i will ask anyhow...
i have been tasked with trying to restore this older record player. i am unsure of the manufacturer, but the record deck is a Garrard Model 1000. i guess back in the day, Garrard would just export the deck, and then whatever manufacturer received it would make their own housing and add their own electronics, making finding a schematic impossible. no biggy, since everything i have tested it out of tolerance, i just went through and replaced all the caps and resistors. unfortunately, i dont know much about transistors, and this unit has a few. i have been trying, but have so far been unsuccessful in identifying them correctly.
the two transistors that i suspect are the ones being used as amplifiers are clearly texas instruments transistors, you can see the TI symbol printed right on it...after that it says SC4131-1 and 6543 below that. you would think this should be easy to identify and find a replacement for, but i cant make head or tails of it. there are a few other, smaller transistors, but they show even less information, so for now i am just going to leave them out.
i would post pictures, but the transistors are in a rats nest of components. if i can get a clear shot i will post, but a picture wont show you much more than what i have already described. they arent modern transistors, these look more like nuts for a threaded fastener, and are in fact bolted to the frame through the top of the transistor...i assume this is for heat dissipation.
im hoping i didnt post this query in the completely-wrong forum! please forgive me and disregard the question if so!
thanks everyone!
Brian

Re: Garrard model 1000 (transistor question)
Do you know what goes wrong in the pre-amps in portable Garrard turntables with the Pickering V-15 carts such as the Sylvania Exponent 4/40? I bought like 3 different Garrard portables from 3 Different brands and they all have dead pre-amps and i gotta attach my own cables to a separate pre-amp to get them to work...Not very portable.Foose wrote: Sun Jun 16, 2024 8:26 am Good morning everyone!

Brian,
Yes you posted this question on the wrong forum. Post it on the ARF site: https://antiqueradios.com/forums/index.php
You're going to need some additional information on the electronics, the 1000 is just the model of the actual changer mechanism and there are no active devices in it, purely
mechanical.
The part numbers you describe are probably house numbers, although there is a 2SC4131 transistor but it's designed for inverters and such although it could be used as an amplifier. 6543 could be a date code 43rd week of 1965.
Good luck
Chuck

thanks chuck!
i MAY have found some replacements, but i am completely unsure at this juncture. i am definitely going to need a group of people way smarter than i am.
