Triton motor noisy

Post by mjbarnes »

It's been pointed out to me that the Triton motor should be pretty quiet. Mine is not. Can anyone help troubleshoot? The click is not as noisy to the ear as it sounds on the phone mic. But there is a second noise that has something to do with the pulley shaft.

Sounds like a worn governor gear. Not so uncommon.

If this were mine I would remove the governor and examine it carefully. The triton motor weights at normal rotation should not appear as seen in the video IMHO. The governor weights should rotate uniformly with very little if any fluttering appearance. It almost looks to me as though one weight or one weight spring is mismatched or loose but without examining it's difficult to confirm. The light clicking sound is very likely coming from the governor and this is where I would be looking first.
