Edison Army Navy Edition Phonograph Value?

Good eye Escott, I missed those pieces. To the sellers credit, he included a link to this forum where he's getting beat up a bit. I think this machine has suffered from climate or a poor storage area so I'm not sure about the paint in the lower portion. Has anyone ever seen a Navy version? Thanks, Jerry

I just checked the inside lower area of mine, and it looks like there was a gray primer applied. The green paint stops at a point below the bedplate frame.
I see this machine's listed on Ebay now. It'll be interesting to see if it clears the opening $400.00 start. I was much more interested in the record case mystery!

I have little experience with these, but it looks on the inside as if this was a model in gray paint (Navy) which was given a rapid repaint in Army green?

I agree Jerry- this is pretty rough, though still very interesting. Lots of little hard to replace pieces missing. The Cameo record shipping crate is a nice piece of trivia, though not a valuable one.

hey guys sorry but we must have either lost or misplaced the grill and cannot find it,I remember when it went into storage the grill and such was with it, but someone moving the storage unit may have mistaken it for trash. I know its bad but I can't do anything about it.. I spoke to the people that moved the things for me and they don't recall throwing it away but the storage is completely empty now so it is what it is, at least it still works. Thanks to all for the help.

Yeah, too bad it's been painted, but I also think the entire phono mechanism was taken from another player. There was no mute ball in these models, and the reproducer was nickle, not gold-finished.

Just as an FYI, since people had been discussing value on these machines. A very nice, perfectly complete original example with key, instruction book, graphite and grease jars, etc., and just a few paint chips and nothing more, was recently sold for $1700 in a private deal.

ha... true on both accounts.

I noticed the same about that whole mechanism assembly (horn, motor, bed plate/motor board, etc), which seems to come from an entirely different machine. perhaps if someone bought this one AND the one in florida, the combined result would be a decent, complete example.

How much would it cost to have this restored? Meaning to remove the paint and restore the original look? Does anyone know where to go to do that in California?

Hey, I just bought this, and after examining it, it would be hard to believe that the turntable horn etc are not original. They are the exact same design as the others pictured, just in gold, not nickel. The little box that holds the needle head (not sure what you call that) is missing, but I can see two little screw marks and glue marks where it used to be. The horn and components look identical to the other models, just not the same color. It is painted on the inside (which is unfortunate). There is no box to the left of the horn where the grease, etc are stored. I don't see any marks either. I think these are orinal components. I will post some pics later. Otherwise it is complete. The paint is the main issue. and it needs to be cleaned (smells musty. Does anyone know where to go to get this type of thing resored? (Paint restored?)
