When was the last "featured phonograph" thread?

Post by beaumonde »

And what happened to all the folks who contributed to these?

Perhaps some of the new-timers to the Forum can step in?

If I had either a phonograph worth featuring or adequate available information for my extremely early (read = pre-model number) Brunswick, I would!

Maybe someday... :rose:

I'd love to post a machine or two, but I still have no digital camera, and no way to upload photos to the internet.

There used to be a board that had people posting a phonograph almost every week. I guess the enthusiasm went flat like used Victrola needle.

Pictures of your Brunswick are MORE than adequate information !! Don't be shy on account of that.

I remember that bored. There was a dude that maintained the archives and the picture links. I wonder where he went? We could use a guy like that since John (Neo) and David (Mordy) seem to have moved on to other pastimes.
Best regards ... AZ*

I used to post feature phonos occasionally, but I have to admit I just dont seem to have the motivation anymore, now that feature phonos no longer get archived.
As some of you would know, when I do them, I like to post any before, during & after shots, & I generally pull the machine down to show pics of the motor & horn etc, and try to include some original advertising. It all gets a bit time consuming & seems a little pointless when in a week or two the thread ends up lost amongst countless others.
I wouldn't even know what number we were up to if I wanted to post one lol.
I also feel a bit reluctant to post machines I've done in the past, even though the old board & those posts are long gone. I guess I just feel people will think "not that boring old thing again", although on the other hand we've got a lot of new members since that old board collapsed 3.5(?) years ago, so the machines would be new to those folk.
It's a great shame the archives haven't been maintained as the easy access reference library it was intended to be.
John's short break from cyberspace appears to have become permanent, and the moderators we've been left with dont seem to be active board members with an interest in the hobby, or willing to put in the man-hours to move threads around etc.
To be fair to David (Mordeth) though, we all knew from the start that his role here was more of a setting up nature, which was largely as a favour to his personal friend John (& the rest of us here).
David's interests are more about technical computer stuff than phonographs, so I think it's a bit unrealistic to expect him to spend the little free time he has away from work in maintaining an entire board dedicated to a hobby he has only a passing interest in. I doubt any of us here would do the same for a board dedicated to the love life of caterpillers or washing dirty diapers :)
I guess we should really be thankful that David hasn't abandoned us completely & is willing to find the time to fix more serious things like that horrible webring link redirection issue recently.

Even though this board hasn't continued to develop according to plan, I am greatful it's still available for us all to use indefinately, and generally speaking it still runs pretty smoothly, and spam & less desirable posts still get removed, but not everyone's world revolves at 78rpm & sometimes life get in the way of the best made plans.
It's still a nice place to call home & it hasn't become an arena for political & racist statements/rants

BTW- Tinkerbell,
I haven't forgotten about your request from a couple months back, but I still haven't moved two ton Tessie somewhere I can get some decent pictures.

Somewhat off topic but related... anyone that knows how to crop/edit a picture into the size and specifications needed to make it an Avatar? David did my current one but as has been noted, he's busy with other things recenly.

thanks,

If you have an imageshack account you can choose to upload any picture in avatar size then paste the link in the URL? box provided here on the board. I dont know if other hosting sites have an avatar option but most likely they do.
