What Model is This Victrola Portable?
I have done image searches and can find nothing quite like it, at least not anything with the distinctive thing in the lid that looks like a record holder (or toilet seat lid
).

Fan, thanks for the link to the Japanese models! Very interesting.
The domestic Victor portables usually have a metal ID tag or visible marking if you remove the turntable.
Here is the tag on this VV1-6.
Does your have a similar tag?

Thanks. It is not mine, however. It is just VSOP (very seriously over priced) for condition item on Craigslist that I was curious about.MarkELynch wrote: Fri Jul 19, 2024 3:20 pm Fan, thanks for the link to the Japanese models! Very interesting.

The machine does not have the Japanese ID plate, and while the pictures are not great, there seems to be no evidence (holes) of a missing ID plate.
The location of the item and the (sad) history of the area could make a Japanese provenance possible, though.

Thanks for the link to the auction. The ID tag is in the photo with the turntable removed.
Fan has correctly identified the model. Good job!

Re: What Model is This Victrola Portable?
There was a fascinating and comprehensive post made back in 2020 listing all or most of the Japanese Victrolas -- viewtopic.php?f=2&t=44553
The OP--nostalgia--took a hell of a lot of time and trouble posting all the images, and providing information about the various models. Unfortunately, the photos were removed in the forum's "upgrade" a few years ago, and are now lost or yet to be restored. Scouring the internet archive for the dates around the time the post was made leads to the inevitable "page not found" message.
In any event, the list of models still exists, and can still be useful.
As was noted, some Japanese Victrolas were produced in the US, and exported to Japan. I've also been told, but have not confirmed, that for some models, the cases along with some of the components were made by Victor/RCA Victor and exported.
