Wow, that is stunning! I'm well outside the 200 mile range but wonder what the reproducer sounds like? These can't be rebuilt and mine has a buzz I just can't get rid of...

Looks very similar to the HMV no16, which was not possible to disassemble without destroying it...

If it's coming from the sound box, itself, and not from the tonearm/horn, where stray needles might be caught, try removing the sound box from the tonearm, squirting a few drops of Goo-Gone into the throat's hole, turn the sound box on its edge, and then move it so the goo-gone flows to the edge of the diaphragm and swish it around.Dischoard wrote: Fri Aug 02, 2024 4:09 pm Wow, that is stunning! It's nearly an exact copy of the HMV 16, or visa-versa, since the Orthophonic version was introduced first. I tried disassembling both types. The first one I tried, about 45 years ago, was the Victor Orthophonic version as used on the 2-35. It was toast to begin with, and toast points after I tried prying it apart.Inigo wrote: Fri Aug 02, 2024 4:27 pm Looks very similar to the HMV no16, which was not possible to disassemble without destroying it...
The second one was the HMV 16 which came with an early HMV 102 portable I acquired about 30 years ago. That one had a torn diaphragm. I successfully pried it apart, using a tiny sharpened screwdriver to peel back the edge of the overlapping sheet metal and impaling my hand in the process. I installed a replacement diaphragm, and reassembled it, using glue to hold everything together. It sounded and looked like ¢rap, so I replaced it with an HMV 5a.

Re: FOR SALE: VV 2-35
I see. This type of front cover is machine-pressed and clamped to the back, so to disassemble it, one has to reverse the clamping process by hand... The results can be disastrous, depending on the flexibility of the bent-unbent cover edge...
This is pure engineering imagination, I've never had one of these, although I've seen and studied many photos of it.
Maybe the best way is to try cutting out cleanly the entire cover edge, so the cover can be simply applied again on the back, adding a special detachable metal clamp, to press the cover onto the back, kind of an adjustable C clamp with U-shaped cross section....

That is an idea, I have seen similar setups elsewhere, but I fear now that we are hijacking this threadInigo wrote: Sat Aug 03, 2024 5:48 am I see.
