Nipper painting

Hello all,
This is not machine related per se. I recently acquired this amazing print/ painting. It does have the dealers stamp on the backside. I have Googled the store, but have struck out so far. Does anyone have any information about Youngs music store 258 s high st.

What, exactly, are you trying to learn?

Is this a print or a painting? You should be able to determine that by looking at the picture with a magnifying glass. If it's a print, the colored areas will be made up of tiny dots which make up the printing process. If it's a painting you should be able to see brush strokes... Also, is this on canvas, paper or card stock?

A clear difference between a print and a painting is the texture of the surface. Paintings typically have raised brushstrokes. The dots of ink on the print are flat.

You can also find signs of the artist’s work on original paintings. If the artist sketched the painting in pencil before painting it, some of the pencil work might still be visible, especially at the edges of the painting that the frame typically covers.

Try the Rolfs book of "Nipper Collectibles", in a nutshell it is a dealer sign. It can be found on 2-32. Of all the Nipper collectibles I have, it is my favorite. Hard to find as nobody ever wants to part with them. Vintage and the closest thing to an original basically affordable. The caption from the book refers to it as a Reproduction Oil Painting. Nice!

Beautiful! Zooming in on the pic shows some cracks/alligatoring. Perhaps a canvas print?

I think WHERE is exactly what the OP is asking. Where was Young's Music Shop ? 258 S High St.-- Has anyone come across other advertisements from this store that would identify the city?

There is a Young's Music Store (called just that) in Whitehall, Pa. I don't know how long it's been in business. Maybe it's a start?

I'm wondering if the address number is really 283. When I blow up the image, it kinda'/sorta' looks like it. After some searching I found:

I tried the website I found for the company, www.youngsmusic.com , but my Firefox browser says there's a security risk if I go to it and has blocked me from calling up the site. I then searched the internet archive, using the "Wayback Machine" and was able to call up the site, but no details about the company are provided, other than they specialize in sheet music.

A very nice find!

Victor supplied the Nipper “painting” and ones of several of the Red Seal artists such as Caruso and others to dealers at a moderate cost. They are thickly printed on canvas and mounted on a framed stretcher to replicate an actual painting. The effect is quite convincing. I’ll locate the advertisement from The Voice of the Victor and post it later.

For the store location, you could check the dealer locator on the Victor-Victrola website. It is sorted by state so that might make searching difficult since you don’t hve that information. The site owner may have other search tools.
