Sonora Auto Brake Help Requested

Post by Dave D »

IMG_6963.JPG
I have this Sonora brake that was missing the extension spring. I have fitted a new one to it, and it sort of works. If I push the lever on the right side in an upward direction, the brake trips, If I push the red rubber stop pad to the left, it resets. However, nothing happens when I pull the lever on the left side downward. What am I not understanding? It seems so simple...
Thanks!

Could it be that there is something broken where I have added the red mark?

It seem like it should open and reload the brake when you turn the left lever downwards... moving the red rubber foot to the left.

Inigio,
I think you might be right. I looked at it carefully and it does appear that something is broken.

In the area indicated by Inigo, it appears that there should be a bent-over tab on the end of the long linkage piece. Such a tab, or "finger", would presumably catch & pull on the brake arm to reset it.

Jerry and Inigo are correct that a tab is broken off. I wonder if I could braze a glob on there and then file it to work?
I don't have a lot of experience with brazing, but it might work.

Jerry! I looked all over on Ebay hoping to find one like this. I can't believe I missed this. It definitely shows what mine is missing. Thank you!
