Are new needles from the brand ''Tonar'' any good?

Post by Patheno0 »

I'm recently new with grammophones and I bought one recently with still a few needles in the tin. But eventually I will need fresh ones.
I'm located in the Netherlands and the only brand of needles I can purchase here are Tonar brand needles.
Anyone has any experience with these needles? Are they any good? Please let me know.

They're awful expensive from DaCapo Audio- as in, "do I have to personally send you needles from America?" levels of expensive. $26.68 for 100 needles? That's crazy. They're about $5 here.

Seriously brother if you need a gramophone care package from overseas let us know.

Hi,
If you are from the Netherlands, then please have a look at the website : www.zwarteschijf.nl
They are selling needles at a reasonable price.

Yes! Zwarteschijf is a serious well known dealer in the area since many years, and his prices are fair.

The website looks kinda shady though, like it hasn't been updated since 2001.

Really? It appears to me it was updated 29-9-24. What's shady about it? He's selling phonograph parts, not hi-tech websites.

Nice. Thanks. Added to my bookmarks.

Most reliable and honest gramophone/phonograph parts and supplies websites I have visited and purchased from look more than a bit clunky, clunky as in amateurish and organic. Clunky is not the same as shady. It is my suspicion that these online businesses are things that have organically grown out the hobby. They are probably single person proprietorships or single person with limited part time staff or family staff at best. Revenues are never going to be huge. There will not be much in the way of funds for professional web developers--where's that HTML Coding for Dummies book? Maintenance and upgrades to the sites, other than inventory updates, will be limited. They are never going to look like EBay, Amazon, Temu, or Newegg. I would be more suspicious if they did.

I’ve known Ko for 25 years, been to his shop, traveled with him to the German Rüdesheim show, etc. It’s unfair to judge a person as “suspicious” just because he doesn’t have a modern website. He’s as honest and straight as they come, but he is as kooky as any one of us. I buy all my needles from him, and never had an issue. I give needles away with every phonograph, sometimes 3 tins, and when I place an order, the level of professionalism is top-notch, more than I can say for many other dealers.

No offense taken. By the way, being a typical Dutchman, he speaks English better than most Americans do.
