Looking to Acquire an HMV 193/194 near to Geneva - Switzerland

Post by wboustany »

Hello folks,

I have a very small collection of gramophones, ending by an HMV 163 that I, not to exagerate, engineered the hell out of it.

I put the original platter aside and adapted a credenza 4 springs motor instead. I 3d printed a functional model of the 2 spring motor that works fine, so I have now spare parts for life. Printed adjustable feets to have the gramophone on even ground at all time.

So I extracted the best sound I could out of it, for a maximum playing time...and now its time to take another challenge.

Hence I am looking for an HMV 193 or HMV 194; a broken motor is not an issue at all, I know these springs motors by heart now. However can't say the same for the horn or the frame.

Anyone looking to sell in my area, or not too far from it ?

Thanks ,

Wissam

The UK isn't Switzerland, but here's one likely for sale right now or soon on FB. Moving across the Channel would be a challenge, but far from impossible:

I have owned a 194 since 2000, and the sound once properly tuned is marvellous. Nevertheless, the larger model 202/203 must be the thing tho go for, judging by testimonies from other colleagues. I've never listened to one in person... Wish you Luck with your chase! :clover: :clover: :clover:

Thank you both for your answers. A 203 would be definitely better, but that would be a tenfold increase in budget.

I guess I'll open a FB acccount and message the owner.

Any other lead would be welcome.

Thanks.

No idea. I don't have time to follow machines that closely unless I'm buying.

I know what you mean but I was thinking more about the OP who has since gone very quiet.
