Who ver it was had alot of money to buy all those cylinders and machine. I bet the boy had the machine already, and i bet he got the cylinders in that box someone shipped to him for his birthday

Hmm i would have to guess actually September of 1906, The boxes are the 1905 style boxes, which I think were made until 1907, The lad is wearing rather warm cloths to me, which indicate maybe fall, and yes that is a model B script style Standard. 1913 would be a little late as they surely would of had a morning glory, and some four minute records, and a fireside machine, rather. I have a dresser like that with same carvings and handles in oak and I did put my cylinders in it!

Yes,Yes.....those are all very good observations that you have made. Can the boy tell us more about the family???. I like the fact that you seem to feel the boy is dressed for colder weather. I don't want to give away too much yet. I will add that the dresser was clearly moved into that spot for the "staged" photo. You will see up and on the right a "kitchen clock" on a shelf. These clocks are also known as "gingerbread clocks". You can see that the dresser was pushed up to or over to it. Maybe the lighting was more ideal at that spot. Last, the camera that was used was clearly of a higher grade as the resolution is wonderful....don't you think????.

Other than the fact that it's a great photo, and the the boy has a "Little Lord Fauntleroy" type jacket with the lace collar and cuffs, but not the long curly hair to go with it, I'm not sure what else I should be getting. Also, why would they move the dresser, only to cover it up? I personally think it was covered because the camera was in the reflection, but why have it there at all if it had to be moved into the photo, just to be covered?

Sorry, my comment about the moving of the dresser may have been misunderstood. It was moved there or over to that spot and used as a stand for the machine and clock, etc..... The mirror is not a part of the equation. It was covered to avoid "flash burn".Maybe it is too hard to see in the pic I posted. Therefore, I will add what the boy can tell us about his family. He is wearing a Yarmulka or kippa on his head. So, the family is Jewish. Since I found this photo in Canada I find the "maple leaf" pattern material they used to cover the chair the boy is standing on a very nice touch.
This now leads us to the month and year .
I will post the month and year tomorrow if no one can figure it out .

Judging from the lighting in the photo, I'd say it was natural light, from a window on the left. Flash powder would have given a more 'frontal' appearance to the light...

And the mirror was most likely covered both to hide the reflection of the camera, and to prevent reflected light from the window from blinding the camera.....

So: prosperous Jewish family in Canada, late 1905 to 1907/early 1908.......

Maybe the boy is holding a very rare can of Edison beer??? . No, it is just a two minute record . The flash burn is only a guess. The mirror may have been covered to conceal the camera. It may have been a cheap and quick way to create a sort of solid back drop to show the machine better??. Regardless of why it was covered......it did help contrast the machine better ...I think.
