1916 EXHIBITION JUNIOR SOUND BOX.

Post by old country chemist »

Greetings all! I have an EXHIBITION JUNIOR SOUNDBOX, FROM ABOUT 1916. I have removed the stylus bar, and I see there is a nickelled ring which must hold the top gasket in AND THE DIAPHRAGM.
Is this ring a screw in item, or is it to be prized out? I would be grateful to know, as I do not want to wreck the item by being too severe trying to remove the ring.

I hope all is well with you folk.

Hi Alastair,

The nickelled ring has to be carefully prized out. It is sprung and held in place by pressure. It acts like a circlip.

I just rebuilt a Number 15 Victor reproducer. Before reinstalling the retaining clip, I let it sit in my freezer for an hour.

Thank you both-jamiegramo, and zipcord for the information, especially the bit where it is good to freeze the ring before insertion. I might just freeze the whole soundbox to help get it out!
Thanks again both of you.
