Good evening
I recently received an old Edison cylinder phonograph. I don't know much about these machines yet and I am seeking any information anyone can offer.
The serial number on the plate is S 37878 0
I do not know the model #, Where could i find this out?
I also need to get a main winding spring, that is broken.
The Gear box/spring housing chassis was already taken off of upper deck of player but still have screws and springs.
I would also need drive belt and probably a different horn as i suspect the horn that came with it is a larger one that needs a support rod. my machine does not have any holder for that.
I am located in northern N.J.
Any info on locating parts and or service would be greatly appreciated.
Ok thanks

Re: Edison Cylinder Player
Hi Art,
Congratulations on acquiring your first antique Phonograph. I hope you're planning to keep it and enjoy the new (old) dimension it brings to your life.
Your machine is an Edison Standard Phonograph Model B, which left the factory in November 1906. Original price was $20.00. It came with a 14-inch black body/brass bell horn, but these are mediocre performers so many original purchasers upgraded to a larger horn and crane.
The Antique Phonograph Society has a number of free articles on its website for newcomers. One of these will show you all models of the Edison Standard (A-G):

Another article will be helpful in operating your Edison:

There's nothing on your Standard Model B that can't be repaired or replaced. For the mainspring and leather belt, contact:

Another good parts resource is:
George Vollema: http://www.victroladoctor.com/
Between these two fellows you should be able to source anything you need for a Standard Model B.
For a larger horn and crane, you are located in a good spot. Every spring and fall there's a big antique phonograph/record show in Wayne, NJ. The spring 2025 show apparently has not yet been scheduled, but you can keep an eye on it here:

You don't want to pay shipping on a large horn, so the show will be an excellent place for you to find one.
Hopefully this will get you started.

Re: Edison Cylinder Player
Thank you all!
I will be following up on that info for parts and info and will get some pics posted soon. I do have a larger horn and would need to mount a support for it I am thinking. (Have not looked into any info as of right now just logged on.)
It is a coincidence that I was just in Wayne today at the PAL Building for their annual train show.
OK talk soon, Thanks again, looking forward to hearing that machine play.
