COIN OPERATED PHONOGRAPHS

Post by ducretet »

Hello everyone,
I am a big fan of coin operated phonographe. I love these machines.
I would like to find a book specialized in this subject. I don't know if it exists.
If any of you know of any book on this subject, please let me know.
If it does not exist, please indicate me the best book that talks about coin operateds.
Thank you.
Regards,
Ferran

Ferran, that is a great question. I'm sure you've seen Shawn's YouTube series...How does that Coin Operated phonograph work. I wish I had the answer for you.. Between Shawn, the Dominic DeBardino (sp) collection (also on YouTube) many great pics could be taken for the book. I have 3 coin ops and would get a copy too if available. Maybe this will start something....Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. James Manker

Thank you James,
Yes I know Shawn's videos. They are fantastic, amazing. I have seen them many times. But, as you rightly say, it would be very interesting to have it in a book.
Likewise I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Regards,
Ferran

Thank you both!! I am so pleased that you enjoy my coin-operated videos.

I started out writing articles, with the expectation of one day organizing them all in a book. However, I found that writing articles was highly unsatisfactory for a several key reasons. To name only two, the articles didn't reach the breadth of audience that I can with videos on YouTube. Second, explaining how a coin-operated phonograph actually works gets really detailed. Using words and a few pictures left out too much detail, and quite honestly, lost most of the readers. Some of my last articles actually reached 9 pages. That's just too much.

With videos, I can use less words, and more pictures and live action to give a better sense of each machine. I also can spend more time going into how the machine came to be, and by who. The history of these harder to find coin-operated phonographs is just as interesting as the machines!

My goal is to educate, free to everyone, reaching as many people as I can. I empathize with you, wanting a book. I love having a book to go back to as well. However, the videos meet my objectives best at this point.

That being said, I am always open to calls, discussions, and to help anyone with their coin-operated phonographs. Just reach out to me!

Shawn...let me compliment you on the video you did of the Chicago one of a kind machine. Man that hit the ultimate high mark for phonograph videos. Loved all the background info you put into it....the love really showed through!!! If you update any of the other videos, could you put in production numbers ....years made, any background at all on them would be nice...from a collectors viewpoint. That being said the info may not be available and please know that ALL of your videos are a labor of love and GREATLY appreciated Kudos to you !!!!
