Shellac 78s should never be sent in an LP mailer, but in a cardboard box. My recommendation is to sandwich the 78s between thick cardboard, and cover that in bubble wrap over the cardboard. Then put them in a cardboard box filled with packing material, like chips or foam etc.

Had this sort of thing, happen to me once. The seller was kind enough to offer a full refund, and I explained to him, how to properly pack a 78 record. A lot of the records, that I have bought off of eBay. Have been from people who deal in 78 records. Also, make sure you check their feedback rating. If the seller has a 100% feedback rating and all positive reviews. They are your best bet for buying 78 records from.

Not just 78's. Some years ago I bought BA1501, the first BA ever issued, with it's original box and lid. It arrived in a used paper envelope with no other packing, and I only just managed to intercept the postman before he tried to ram it through the letterbox.
Amazingly it had suffered no damage, but I made sure that the seller's feedback score did

The worst thing is when the seller gets angry with me for “ruining” their feedback score when I leave a neutral or negative rating, rather than being apologetic for ruining the 78(s) they sent me.epigramophone wrote: Sat Dec 28, 2024 12:10 pm Not just 78's. George, about 15 years ago, I sold 10 - 15 Grand/Concert cylinders on eBay. One thing I did was to place tissue paper between the center tube in the cylinder box and the inside surface of the record. Not tight but snug enough to keep the cylinder firmly in place within its box. I never had a complaint.
