Credenza Automatic brake issue

Post by Redheadjj »

I have a Victrola Credenza (that I love). Recently I noticed the automatic brake stopping records before they were through playing. Looking closer, I see that the vertical rod from the taper tube (that interfaces with the auto brake pieces) is dragging on the wood (motor board level). I can't adjust it higher to clear the finished wood. I have a reprint of the factory set up instructions, but there is nothing in it to help me. What are your thoughts on a fix? Are there any diagrams to help me do this? Thanks!

Some photos showing in detail the area would be great to assess the problem... It could be the rod that is not properly inserted, or is not the correct one, or it could be the tonearm base not right or whatever...

It's possible the pin in the tone arm support is too loose. Try backing off the set screw and pushing down on the pin to tighten it up. Be careful not to get it too tight. You want free movement of the tone arm.

You should also be able to shorten the auto stop pin by backing off the locknut and screwing the vertical piece in more.

Thank you to all of you. I had not realized there were 2 threaded pieces. So, I was able to easily adjust it up a little so it cleared the wood. Great (easy) fix--my favorite kind!
