WANTED: A small piece of grille cloth

Post by Solenoid »

I’m restoring a Sonora portable phonograph, the kind that looks like an old suitcase. I need to replace the grille cloth that goes on the motorboard. The (unusable) cloth I’m replacing is 5” x 6”. It’s gold thread with a little black in it with a very loose weave with spaces between 1/32” and 1/16” between the threads.

So I am seeking a piece of grille cloth about 5 ½ x 6 ½ inches, with any combination (or solid or pattern) of gold, black, and brown with a loose weave. For this project, I’m not concerned with craving original cloth, just something that looks nice! Thanks in advance!

Edit: let me clarify that I’m not asking for something for free, I just don’t need an entire yard of fabric!

I gather you are trying to save money by buying someone’s scrap. If that doesn’t pan out how about a half-yard?

Here is a pattern similar to the 1928 Victor Orthophonic and Electrola line, the seller has other options.

Please post a picture of your project and let us know how it turns out.

Late to the party here but I have a few yards of a nice grillecloth that I could cut a piece off of and mail. See attached.
