I saw this too. My inclination would be to tell the seller to remove the horn elbow and keep the horn. Cuts down on postage for something I would immediately throw away once delivered.

It amazes me that these junk machines bring so much money while better machines at an auction like Stanton's bring the same or less.

That's probably a large part of it. The other thing I find is that many of the machines at Stanton's have been altered over the years by past collectors or have been restored very poorly. I say "many", but certainly not all. Not picking on Stanton's offerings, as there are always many very fine examples, and those seem to do okay, considering the current market. The machine currently on eBay is not one that I would classify as "junk". The horn is junk, but the machine will clean up nicely and has not been adulterated with 18 coats of polyurethane, sanded with 80 grit sandpaper, or stored in lake. A virginal original is far preferred to one that has been affected by the preferences of a previous "restorer". (My opinions of course. Yours may, and perhaps should, vary.)

I can see what you are saying, but I think that the "restored" machine are more noticeable because of the shear volume that are brought in, but these machines fill the gap, if you will. That allows the ability to have a 3 day auction, thus the more people you can get there, the greater the bandwidth of the collectors.... There is certainly an extensive variety of ranges from parts and part machines, to some the never show up, like this last this last auction. There are always those "Holy Grail" machines that we all try for. I most definitely agree with you in the desire and pursuit for those unmolested machines might be getting more difficult. Someone a long time ago when I started collecting told me, "Don't ever do something to a machine that you cannot undo." Thanks Jeff!

Don't get me wrong. I appreciate everything that comes up for sale in these auctions. I'm just suggesting a possible reason for what can seem to be low sale prices at Stanton's.
