For Sale: Rare Early Acoustical Symphonic Sets- Various

Post by gramophone-georg »

I'm offering the following rare Columbia Flag and Victor Batwing symphonic set duplicates from my collection. Please note that prices are guidelines and I am very open to offers. Payment via PayPal "Friends and Family" or your good check. Satisfaction guaranteed.

COLUMBIA FLAG
1. Early, no set number, Franck: Symphony in D minor, Sir Henry J Wood & New Queens Hall Orch., 4 records in stunning E++ condition and play as new. Great labels with old stickers. A previous owner's notes on first sleeve, dated 1 May 67. Album in nice condition with nicely repaired spine. Just a wonderful set. $100 SOLD!

2. Masterworks Set No. 5, Tschaikowsy, Symphony No. 6 (Pathetique), Wood and New Queens Hall Orch., 4 records in V++ to E- with nice labels. Play great. Album- minor spine damage at top, sleeves splitting, crumbling; middle two detached. $75

VICTOR BLUE BATWING:
3. Don Juan, Strauss, Albert Coates with symphony orch., Parts 1-4 on two E Victor blue batwings that play as new. In sleeves, no album. 55176-77. 1922. $45
4. Tschaikowsky, Symphony No 6 (Pathetique), Sir Landon Ronald and Royal Albert Hall Orch., 5 E+ records in original Victor Music Arts Library album. Album in decent condition (for age) but with missing outer spine and brittle splitting./ crumbling sleeves. $100

VICTROLA BATWINGS:
5. This one is a Musical Arts Library double feature, of sorts, and consists of 5 records in overall E- condition that play E+ or better. A previous owner seemed a little challenged in mating the spindle to the hole, but did not cause serious damage. The first three discs are Stokowski with the Phila Symphony performing Schubert's "Unfinished" Symphony, and the last two are Schubert's Quintette in E Flat Major performed by Ossip Gabrilowitsch with the Flonzaly Quartet. The album for this one has spine damage at top and bottom but is otherwise above average. $75

The following have no albums but are sleeved, of course.
6. 6430-31, Tschaikowsky, Sym No 5 in E minor, 2nd movement, parts 1,2,3. 6431-B is Snow Maiden- Dance of the Tumblers (Rimsky- Korsakow), Stokowski, Phila Symphony. Visual E+, play NM, "A-8" scratched into labels first disc. $35

7. 8040-41, Bach- Concerto for Two Violins, Kreisler and Zimbalist with string quartet (Flonzaly?). Visual E+, play as new $35
8. 8064-8066, Rachmaninoff, Symphony No 2, RACHMANINOFF with Stokowski and the Phila Orch., visual E+ that play as new. Extremely nice $75 SOLD!
9. 6492-3, Strawinsky, "The Fire Bird", parts 1-4. Stokowski and the Phila Symphony. Visual E+ that play as new. $30 SOLD!

Pictures below will likely not appear in order or with proper orientation, sorry. Feel free to ask any questions.

I'll take no. 8, the Rachmaninoff (concerto, actually, not symphony) batwing Red Seal set.

You got it. Of course, you are right about it being a concerto. It's been a long day with too much blue light and I am slap happy. :D

Thanks! Unless there's more to come, that will be it for me, but I've forwarded your list to a non-member friend to see if there's anything he wants me to pick up for him. (The Schumann-Heink already falls into that category.) I'll let you know as soon as he gets back to me.

Had anybody read the passionate comment about the music of Wood and the Halle Orch written on the first sleeve of the album? It's very interesting and moving...
