The Electrical Life of Louis Wain. This scene takes place in 1900. The Crapaphone was built much later. Another example of spending millions on a film and not bothering to do research.

I watched Coquette (1929) for the first time yesterday, and spotted what looks like a later model Victor VV-4-3 --

Frankly, it gave the most convincing performance in the entire film.

For those who don't know about this movie, this was Mary Pickford's "talkie" debut and her only Oscar win for best actress, though, considering her actual performance in the movie, many modern reviewers consider it to have been a lifetime achievement award. Earlier reviewers said she probably got the Oscar because she hosted a lavish afternoon tea with the judges--prior to the awards--at Pickfair (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pickfair).

Either way, at 37 years old, poor Mary was slightly handicapped at the start portraying a virginal, albeit flirtatious, 19 year old. This is particularly apparent during the country club dance scene where she looks to be old enough to be most of the young dancers' mother.

Yes I remember this movie very well. Saw it as a child in the late 1960’s as a family classics on TV.
I’ve always liked it. Unfortunately badly received during its initial release.

The Pathé phonograph does play an important role in the story. Probably another reason I’m into vintage phonographs.

Yes. I saw it a few decades ago. It's been so long that I remember next to nothing about it, except that it was a very touching story. And of course, I remembered the phonograph.

Spotted an Edison Idelia tonight! It came at just the right time because I was about to switch the movie off... the plot is sickening .
