February 1, 1859: Born: Victor Herbert, prolific American composer and conductor whose brief tenure at the National Phonograph Company fortuitously coincided with the zenith of 2-minute and 4-minute cylinder recording (1909 – 1911).

He was responsible for bringing in performers who were on the stage and vaudeville like Harry Lauder and Sophie Tucker,also opera singers to the Edison list l.edisonplayer.
