i have this pre dog record of s.h. dudley and i have the edison 2m version aswell!!

never knew it was this scarce
what would the 1902 edison be worth?

its a nice descriptive record but not super special its dudley doing the multiple voices of an choir like tenor soprano and bass and some othe quaint types it is very much a imitation of the len spencer type record

this is the second time one of my records turned gold the first one was billy murray with cansas city kitty a 1929 edison blue amberol i saw one sell on ebay for 1000 dollars

Tino,

What makes this particular Victor pre-dog record valuable is the label. The label designation as "VICTOR TEN INCH RECORD" was used for just one week in early January 1901. It is an incredibly rare label and you are to be congratulated if you indeed own one. I am still looking for one. About 12 years ago a seller on Ebay offered 6 pre-dog Victor records in the ten inch size and one in the group had the "VICTOR TEN INCH RECORD" label. The seller included just one photo of the records as a group as I recall. Obviously, several other people besides me noticed it as well and the group went for a princely sum but not anywhere near what this one here brought. Anyway, congratulations!

Doug

Tino, I would love to see a pic of your record. I am a little confused with some of the pics your posting of your achive. Most of what I see are of Yelle A's
collection. Did you buy his collection??.

It is generally believed that this label only appeared on M-3001 to M-3016, recorded between 3 and 10 January, 1901. I guess that only 10.000 discs with that label were ever pressed. A few years ago I was second bidder in an auction with two of such discs (price was much lower than today).

Odd: I remember an advertisement of Hawthorne & Sheble of late April 1901 with a drawing of "Victor Ten Inch Record" M-3225, recorded on 5 April 1901. The following, even odder, breed is taken from an early Victor advertisement:

if only!!!haha lol    no but jelle and me are great buddies at the moment i act as his ebay searcher since im very busy searching for pics of rare phono's for my phono foto archive i sent him ebay links every day with things he might like and yes you probably saw the pic of the roneophone wich is yelle's most other pics are from my 2500 pic archive wich has several pics taken at yelle's place

as for the record i have all my 78s and wax cylinders in my digital archive so i can check within secods if i have a recording or not sofar i collected 200,000 mp3s from 1878 to 2013 quite a number of these are also from jelles collection but sice i am a fan of dudley i remember buying it from guess who...
and searching through 10,000 records for 1 pre victor in a smal attic filled with a 100+ phono's   well its quite a undertaking

just look what i have to swim throug to get to my record storage cabinets(here hidden from view!) :o :o :o
its a nice record dough quite different than most of dudley's recordings like i said its very reminicent of a len spencer record

what i wonder is... do i know you?.. we apperently have a mutual friend tell me your name so i can say hi from you to yelle the next time i call him on the phone

greetings
tino

ps note that the pics of my attic room where taken at different times and i moved phono's around the busy bee on the pics is the same one

Does anybody have a copy of 3001 “When Reuben Comes To Town” on the Victor Ten Inch label? Or know if someone who does have one? Are any copies known to be extant?

She just love my big 10 inch
Record of her favorite blues

Last night I tried to tease her
I gave my love a little pinch
She said now stop that jivin'
Now whip out your big 10 inch

"Big Ten Inch Record"

I believe the song was first recorded in 1952 by Bull Moose Jackson, though I'm sure Aerosmith's cover was much more successful.
