Mystery front-mount machine

Post by Zenger »

I assume this is a Victor R (sorry, this is the only picture I have), but a few things look off, most notably the metal horn support. Is it possible this is something else, or is it definitely a Royal?

It's a Model R. And the engine under it is a Model T, (but you probably knew that).

Some R's have stamped metal arms like that. Others will know the finer details and time frames.

Looks legit to me- The metal arm is a "Gibson" arm-- They were used on some "R" and "E" machines-- (I've had both)- Perhaps other machines as well that others here can ID.

I believe the metal travelling arm, known as a Gibson arm, is more unusual than wood and suggests this is a later machine.

Here is a link to an earlier discussion of the Gibson arm. In it I pictured the E I sold a few years back-- Another member commented that the Gibson arm was rarer to find on an R or a P than on the E.

Thanks, everyone! Very interesting, especially about the Gibson arm. I'm happy to have this machine. Would the Exhibition reproducer have been a later "upgrade"?

(And yes -- that is a Modet T engine!)

Very Nice!!!! It should clean up pretty nicely. Post pictures of it cleaned up. It's a bonus that it came with the crank. The R cranks are hard to come by. Some of the R models came with an Exhibition Jr. reproducer. Just a little bit smaller in diameter.

Nothing cuter than a Victor R. And the Model-T engine is also neat; did you get any Ford parts or is this in your garage?

No, not my garage, and I didn't get any Ford parts, but it's nearby, so PM me if there's something specific you're looking for.
