That's just insane, but I suppose at least 2 people thought it was worth that much.

I bought mine about 5 years ago on the bay for $325 (and that was considered high at the time), and it's needed nothing -- my best sounding reproducer. It was from that "recycleable4U" seller who tended to part out Credenzas.

I remember many eons ago when a "V" grade Ben Bernie Brunswick 78 went for about $150, after a bidding war between 2 bidders. I don't remember the specific titles or catalog #, and have no idea about the scarcity, but that just seemed silly as well.

I know that last year, Walt Sommers was listing his custom gold Orthos for about $425 as a buy it now. Hope all is well with him, but I know that last year at this time he stated he was extremely busy.

However, if you get a nice pot metal reproducer they can sound just as nice, or some instances better, than the brass reproducer.

I guess I got cheated then when I sold a nearly perfect credenza with the original brass reproducer and the top bid was 450.00. It almost seems like it would pay to buy the whole machine to obtain a reproducer? Just thinking.

It is sad, as there are people out there doing just that. Personally I think it detracts from the history and the story behind the machine.

It does detract, right along with separating the original record collection from the machine
