Sounds thin, several probable causes.
A photo from the front of the diaphragm would be very illustrative to diagnose the problem.
Could also be a problem in the conduit or horn, obstruction or air escape.
Could also be the tonearm... That joint allowing to raise or lower the soundbox works soft or hard? It seems to have a pot metal tonearm which can swell with age, preventing the joints to work softly...

Re: Needless
I think I'm hearing some buzzing in your video. I think a rebuild is in order. As Inigo requested, some pictures of the reproducer face might help.

Re: Needless
How can I tell if a pressing is vinyl or shellac? I agree with you tho, because it plays.

Re: Needless
Generally speaking, shellac records are heavier and less flexible—as in, not really flexible at all. Vinyl 78s are more like vinyl records.
It’s not easy to determine the material without actually holding them, but if the label says that the record is “indestructible” or “unbreakable,” there’s an excellent chance that it’s not shellac.

That was about a different machine, but much of what's there (some of it by me) would apply to the Vitanola as well. For example, the tips about how to identify suitable shellac records are the same. Also, apparently both machines provide for playing Pathé records with similar adjustments, and the same information about styli applies equally.
