English Pathéphone cabinet gramophone?

Selling tomorrow and not identified as a Pathé but looking at my Aida machine (please see dedicated thread) this machine appears to have an identical tonearm, brake, speed control, lid stay and winding handle. So is it another Pathé and if so, which model?

What puzzles me is the absence of the Pathé logo. Most Pathé machines, French or English, have the logo decals on them, or brass plates in the older ones.

Yes, I agree. The absence of any logo, Pathé or otherwise, is puzzling. I doubt it has fallen off the lid or been removed as the finish internally appears to be original.

Not bad at all considering it is anonymous and a cabinet machine. I doubt it sold though. Wasn't £100 the reserve? Auctioneers often start at the reserve and pretend to get a bid in the hope of getting more. Who knows?

Yes compared to the Automatique this seems expensive. I phoned the auction house about the 2 lots and that’s what they said the hammer price was £100. Perhaps this was the reserve?

Now on Ebay being sold for £400 by Time After Time antiques!

It is not a Pathé but ironically the sellers are ruining a Pathé disc on it by playing it with a steel needle and lateral soundbox!

They are also wondering why the record is so short as they are placing the needle at the edge of a centre start!

These people do occasionally sell gramophones but they don't seem to know much about what they are selling. I've made quite generous offers on items they were selling in the past but never to this day have they accepted an offer from me. Maybe I got lucky in hindsight?

£100 wasn’t really cheap for an anonymous cabinet machine in the current market, handsome though it was, and you need the space for far more interesting machines!

I guess the £400 depends on their clientele. They may end up selling it! For seasoned collectors there are far more interesting machines to be had. If I saw the machine at a car boot sale for £50 I wouldn’t want the hassle of it.

I was slightly amazed the Pathé record sounded as good as it did though it’s sad seeing something ruined.

I agree but the cabinet isn't all that handsome when you see it slightly closer up in the Ebay photos. It is quite scruffy and suffers from splits and shrinkage in various places. I wouldn't want it for £50 either and I can't imagine anyone else will, not least at £400 asking price. I notice they've kept the records it came with out of the sale too. Misers!

LOL  Surely one ruined Pathé record is included in the sale of the machine!
