VTLA: 1907

Post by Jmcmahan67 »

Hi All,

I finally finished the restoration of a 1907 VTLA that I picked up last fall in Lexington, KY. While it was missing a few parts, the finish was in good shape, and I was able to get everything that I needed. I did have to re-veneer the top, but fortunately I was able to get it to match the rest of the cabinet by using old masters red mahogany stain, four coats of red garnet shellac, and a wax finish. This was also my first attempt to at applying a phono decal and it turned out great. Eventually, I’m sure I’ll seek out the correct early record albums for this cabinet. The motor was in excellent condition and just needed to be cleaned, re-greased, and fine tuned.

Several members on the forum provided both parts and advice during the restoration process, and I’m very thankful for everyone’s contribution.

Another machine saved for posterity!

John

You did a beautiful job on it-- Good work! I've always liked that 2nd style VTLA with the fretwork and the Victor-Victrola decal..
Looks great!! Good save.

Very nice! I've got a similar one that's been taking me far too long. Good for you for finishing it so you can enjoy it!
