Amberola 30 Mandrel Missing Brake
My Amberola 30 was working fine for a long while but the mechanism that stops the mandrel at the very end is gone. Now I can no longer wind up my machine and play the many cylinders I love. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Are you refering to the piece that attaches to the end of the mandrel shaft that prevents the mandrel from sliding off?

That’s exactly what I mean!!! Can I just buy another, attach it to my Amberola, and get back to listening?

James.
Do you know of any current listings of this piece on eBay? I cannot find any at the moment so may just have to wait.

Yes. That's all that you need to do. However, you apparently had one up to some point. It must have just fallen off. How far away can it really be? Have you looked for it? Did it fall into the cabinet?Enderobot wrote: Tue Mar 11, 2025 1:36 pm That’s exactly what I mean!!! Can I just buy another, attach it to my Amberola, and get back to listening?

You are so right about the possibility that the mandrel collar may have fallen into the Amberola! I’ll check when I get home! Leave a link to any eBay links though if you find any offers!JerryVan wrote: Tue Mar 11, 2025 3:04 pmYes. That's all that you need to do. However, you apparently had one up to some point. If the part doesn't turn up, I would suggest getting in touch with Mark at Croakin Frog Antiques or George at Great Lakes Antique Phonograph. Either should be able to provide what you need.
