HUGE RARE CYLINDER COLLECTION!!!

Post by Garjen127 »

Found this on e-bay, I would totally bid if I had the money. It's got a Bacigalupi Cylinder! I hope they got to someone who will appreciate them! I will say that I've been looking for a pink Lambert for a while.

It’s boxes only, with a handful of likely unusable records. Nonetheless, it’s a fun assortment.

Hello--

Who are you Garjen? I am Mike Sorter, from Riverside. Do you go to the phono show in Buena Park? I'm always set up by the food court, on the back wall next to the seating area for the food.

Mike

PS: And, I am going to enjoy the cylinder boxes from that Ebay lot! I have collected cylinders and their boxes for nearly 30 years now. Cylinder boxes are some of my favorite part of collecting phonographs!

Interesting to see a Bettini box. Quite scarce.

The "Bettini box" in this lot is not genuine but a fake, made a long time ago (by someone I know). So, its value is close to zero.

I own an example, because I got it for free. And it will be included in my book about cylinder record boxes, that I am still working on, but just as an example for fakes.

Hi Helmut,

That’s very interesting about the fake Bettini. Is it a different pattern or colour to an original? Perhaps the printing isn’t as sharp?

Hi Jamie,

There never was a Bettini box with a label like this. To my knowledge the image/illustration on this fake box was taken from a Bettini cataolgue or advert and transferred to what the creator of that label thought could have been a nice label for Bettini. There were several of them made, but none has a lid. All just have the same red colour cap on bottom, which in fact is an Edison cap, painted red.

Cheers

Do you have an image of what a genuine Bettini box looks like?

TinfoilPhono posted some pictures of original Bettini boxes some years ago that he bought in Paris. This being the TMF they are now lost. I hope someone else will post some. I found this interesting web page from CAPS news on fake Bettini cylinder boxes:
