Re: "The Ormsby Disc" -- unusual early record
Thanks for sharing that clipping, Glenster! I suspect Mr. Ormsby (or was it Ormsbee?) didn't actually press all 100,000 discs, or there would be a picture of one (besides mine) somewhere on the entire internet. I have since found a second one (see picture) and suspect there's a third one in there somewhere, too. If anyone reading this has any, please post pictures of yours!

Re: "The Ormsby Disc" -- unusual early record
Hi, I found an Ormsby Disc while scrolling on Ebay a few months ago. The song is entitled "Tell Me with Thine Eyes." When I bought it, it was broken, and to fix it, someone had glued the two halves of the record to a Victor Red Seal recording of John McCormack. Whatever glue they used was very rubbery and stretchy. I carefully removed the Ormsby Disc from the Victor record. The record was being sold cheaply due to its damage, and the seller said it was the only one he's seen in his 40-odd years of collecting. he also said that it probably would not play, but surprisingly, it does! The sound is very tinny and thin, and I could see why it was not a success, even in the early 1900s. Since the label is the same as the other images, just with a different title, I don't feel the need to post an image.
