Antique Combination Wall / Table Lamp - $250

Post by TinfoilPhono »

This is a very early (Patented 1895) lamp which can be used as a desk lamp or hung on a wall. The socket has a weighted bottom and swivels within brass arms. A very cool display piece.

It is made of brass, but this example has a slightly coppery color which I have never encountered before. It makes it particularly attractive. The socket is original, and is stamped "EDISON'S PATENTS." The paddle is embossed "GECo," meaning General Electric Company (which started life as the Edison General Electric Company).

It is rewired with modern cloth-covered twisted wire, and a new plug made to resemble a vintage bakelite original. I will include a new replica filament incandescent bulb for display, complete with its 'evacuation tip' as on early originals.

Unlike all the others I've seen, this does not have a lip on the edge of the base for a hanger. Instead, the bottom steel plate has a series of hanging holes. I can't understand the reasoning, since there's really only one position that it can be hung effectively, for the socket to swivel upright.

The price is $250 plus shipping in the US. Paypal or Zelle accepted.
